Glubble Parents

Where Families Play

I'm pleased to announce that we have just released a new version of Glubble for families. We have improved many things in this release. But more important, we have added functionality that our users have asked for. Your Firefox browser will find the update automatically, but if you can't wait and want to upgrade you can download the update here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/41524/glubble_for_families-2.0.1.3-fx.xpi

This release contains specific user requests:
- New preferences. You can now set a preference to start in Kids Mode by default. This isn't necessarily more safe for kids, but it does mean that a child can't by accident start an unlocked browser. You can also set a preference to open the Family Page on startup.

- We have improved our filtering capabilities. We have found a better balance between convenience and safety. When a parent allows access to a website, for example www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies, children can now access the cbeebies site, but not reach the www.bbc.co.uk site.

We have further added :
- A "Forgot password" link when you unlock the Kids Page to go the Family page. If you do not remember your family password you now have the option to change it and unlock the browser. This functionality can only be used by registered e-mail addresses so it is kids safe

- Better feedback to change users in the Kids Page. When you move your mouse over the Kids Profile picture you will see an option to click on it. This opens a dialogue that allows children to switch profiles from the Kid Page, without having to go to the Family Page first

- We have improved the readability of the Kids Monitor and we have increased its speed for a better user experience
- We have made several corrections that should now ensure you can't get locked in child mode or that you are not able to switch to child mode
- Improved several smaller interface elements to make the user interface a better experience

We hope you will enjoy this update. We are already preparing a next release. In that release we will add favorite management (designed with input from our users!). We will introduce themes for kids, so that they can decorate their Kids Page and many more features. Stay tuned!

Achim, thanks for your response. We will look into this to see if we can find a fix for it.

That was the reason, why I posted to this blog that has the title 2.0.1.3.
I am actually using the version 2.0.1.3. on the computer of my son. On my computer I just saw. that I meanwhile upgraded to 2.0.2.0. I don't have this version installed on my sons PC yet.

Regards,

Achim

Hi Achim,

could you please tell me what version of Glubble you currently have installed? You can find the version number when you click on the Firefox Tools menu, and then select Addons.

Hello,
first a possible solution for Jason:
You can simply remove the IE link from the desktop or the start menue. What I also did is, that I did not allow IE to connect to the internet. I was able to do this in my MCAfee Firewall, but every Firewall should be able to do this.

Second, I have a possible bug. I have glubble installed for my son on a XP machine.
When he has administrator rights, everything works fine, but I would like to give him only reduced rights. When he has only mainuser rights (in German 'Hauptbenutzer'), he is not able to connect to allowed sites, it always asks for the password!?
Is this a bug in Glubble? I know, that a lot of programs don't work, if the user is not an administrator, but for this kind of software, it should really be fixed.

Thanks,
Easy

Here is the link:

That is probably what you should put in your blog content, not the link to the .XPI file itself.

Thank you and good night

Oh, and if possible, it would be nice to have that "Install Now" button on the Glubble Family Homepage.

Is there somewhere that this update exists that I can install it from within the web page? Not the link directly to the .xpi file but a link to a page -- like a lot of the addons page for FF -- that says "INSTAL NOW" or similar.

Works very well Alexander. You know, you also can remove the "close" button in kids mode.
If wants to close, first need to unlock to the family page, then close. Set preference to start in kids mode et voila. Ciao, Kees

Hi Jason,

we have not implemented that feature yet, as it might lead to problems when you do not remember your password. You would not be able to close the browser anymore, and your computer would be locked full screen by Glubble. This could be fine if the computer is used by your children only, but it is a bit of a hassle when you are also using the same computer.
We are thinking about a possible preference setting to allow parents to do that, but you need to make sure you remember your family password. I'll see if we can include it in our next release.

Alexander

For now I can only suggest that you have a conversation with your child about online safety to see if you can let him stay within Glubble because it is fun!

Best regards,

Alexander
